I have been working with Kathy Heeg (as needed) for over 6 years and because of our work, I have grown so much as a person. Specifically, we have focused on both family relationships and intimate relationships. Through our work, Kathy has given me the tools and confidence to become a stronger communicator, set realistic boundaries, and an overall sense of prioritizing what was/is important in my day to day life.
During the spring and summer of 2008, Kathy used the EMDR/performance enhancing therapy with me to help prepare for a time that would be a very emotional one for me and as a result causing some anxiety. With Kathy’s help and EMDR therapy, I was pleasantly surprised and was able to achieve the results I was looking for without any other form of therapy or medication.
Kathy is constantly growing in her profession and as a result knows a wealth of knowledge that is able to assist in a broad range of emotional needs. As I have done for many years, it is with great confidence that I recommend Kathy Heeg as an exceptional and highly effective LCSW

by Kathy on June 2, 2014 Comments Off on Mary PKathy, an excellent therapist, is kind and caring and extremely helpful. She is very understanding and is always willing to encourage and provide great techniques for improving gymnastics. At first, I was skeptical about how brainspotting would help me get over my fears and improve my gymnastics. However, my fears slowly disappeared and I made a lot of progress. I was able to do skills that I had thought I had lost two years ago. I never thought I would get these skills back but brainspotting completely changed this. Brainspotting helps me focus on what I need to do and believe that I can do it. This technique allows mental blocks to disappear and confidence to emerge. For me, Brainspotting is a wonderful method to get rid of blocks and I recommend it to all gymnasts. I am on the second highest level of JOGA and used brainspotting to get my back full and tsukahara vault back. Additionally, brainspotting helped me get an aerial on the balance beam.

by Kathy on June 2, 2014 Comments Off on Joyce SKathy is amazing. She never stops educating herself and learning new techniques to help her clients. She is extremely knowledgeable about the brain and the science behind healing. I’ve been so impressed by her intuitive ability to guide me exactly where I need to go. I’m a 50 year old lesbian, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and suffer from PTSD. I have spent a good portion of my adult life in and out of therapy, and on and off anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medication. After many years of group therapy, “talk therapy,” and countless self-help books, I felt I had healed as much as I possibly could. I came to accept that depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and migraines would always be a part of my life. Then 3 years ago a friend talked me into giving EMDR a try, and that’s when I started working with Kathy. After my very first EMDR session I felt a noticeable decrease in my level of anxiety! We did EMDR for about 6 months and then switched to Brainspotting, which continued for the next 2.5 years. It’s been over a year since I’ve experienced any feelings of depression or had a panic attack. Working with Kathy has been an incredible, life-changing experience. I came to her as a hopeless, fractured person. Three years later I am leaving grounded, confident, and whole. I never believed I could heal–but I truly have!

by Kathy on June 2, 2014 Comments Off on Eddie GI am an Iraqi War veteran who has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I served in Iraq in 2003 and delayed seeking mental health guidance until February 2008. Kathy Heeg was referred to me by someone I knew and who recognized that I needed to speak to someone in the mental health profession. In the two years that I saw Kathy approximately once a week, we discussed my fears and dreams associated with serving in a combat zone. Kathy systematically targeted the issues that I had difficulty dealing with and put these fears into a tolerable perspective. Over the course our discussions, I began to see improvement in my thought patterns associated with the war and developed better sleeping habits. I learned to put dreams that I had been having since my return to the United States into a perspective that I could better understand myself and developed positive reactions and responses to problems I had been having socially. After some time, Kathy began using EMDR as a tool to associate words and thoughts into something that I could use to further my mental health recovery. I accepted the practice and put my trust into Kathy’s knowledge of EMDR. I believe using EMDR has proven to lessen the stress I was once experiencing in dealing with issues of social conflict as well as helping me cope with family problems that I believe were created by my deployment overseas.

by Kathy on March 21, 2014 Comments Off on Sandra TI have been working with Kathy for almost two years. When I first came to her I found myself unable to move past certain areas in my life. Kathy introduced me to EMDR which has helped to change my life. Through our work with EMDR I have been able to move the barriers that have been preventing me to move forward. It has helped me to process certain areas in my life, move past and accept the emotional barrier that has prevented me from working through the issue in the first place. Kathy is very knowledgeable in EMDR and Brainspotting and is constantly educating herself on how to enhance her skills. She is always up to date on the most current information and research and continues to grow in her area of expertise.

by Kathy on March 21, 2014 Comments Off on Katie RI wanted to take a moment to acknowledge Kathy Heeg and the wonderful work that she has done with me. Kathy is always very honest with me, and always guides me in the right direction, even if the journey is not going to be easy. I had been a previous client of hers and then had stopped seeing her due to family and work commitments. A while back, Kathy used EMDR on me, after I was experiencing nightmares of being in a car accident. The one year anniversary of a car accident that I was involved in was approaching and I began to dream about it. Kathy introduced me to EMDR and it was very successful. The nightmares of being in an accident went away very quickly. Kathy had also used EMDR on me while I was preparing for a rigorous training for a new law enforcement position. The training that I was preparing for was going to be both physically and mentally demanding. EMDR helped the anxiety that I was beginning to feel, subside. It allowed me to go into the training program with a clear mind. I am currently experiencing a stressful time with a separation and possible divorce within my immediate family. I had stopped seeing Kathy, but was back in touch with her when I realized that I was feeling overwhelmed. There is no one else that I would trust to successfully guide me through this time. I am looking forward to working with Kathy again, as I am confident that she will make a difficult time easier to navigate.

by Kathy on March 21, 2014 Comments Off on Sam TPanic attacks and anxiety had become a normal part of my daily existence after a series of traumatic events in my life. When I first went to Kathy I wasn’t sure what to expect. We tried a myriad of approaches from talk therapy, to EMDR, and brainspotting. With Kathy’s help, brainspotting provided me with the respite I was looking for … I didn’t “feel” my anxiety anymore. Kathy worked wonders with me and helped me with new ways to deal with anxiety producing situations – no matter how big. I am forever indebted to Kathy and brainspotting as my panic attacks are a thing of the past!
